Ellistown Wildlife Group www.ellistownwildlife.org.uk

Trees are especially important to us as they store harmful CO2 and provide a very important habitat to our local wildlife, this is why we plant them!

We collect tree seeds from September - October and sow these into our tree nursery, we trans-plant these saplings creating brand new woodlands within the county. We also encourage other people to sow tree seeds and then pass them on to our group as part of our save the sapling scheme activities.

The collection of seeds is undertaken in the local area, which has the added advantage that all the saplings grown on by us, are of local provenance and suited to the local climate and soil conditions.

Our tree planting is undertaken during the dormant period from (October – March), when deciduous trees are not actively growing. We aim to plant a variety of tree species each year at a number of different sites, to create new wildlife habitats.

If you’re a landowner or manage a site within 15 miles of Ellistown and are interested in having some trees planted on your site for wildlife conservation, then please contact us on our contact page. The tree planting is undertaken by our members, who also design the woodland planting scheme and can advise on its annual maintenance plan.
